Meet Claudia Croom
Claudia Croom currently serves as the Wake County Clerk of Superior Court. She was appointed by Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Paul Ridgeway and seeks to keep her seat in the 2026 election. Claudia’s unique combination of experiences has prepared her to serve as Clerk.
Claudia graduated from Duke University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1990. After working in the private sector, she attended North Carolina Central University School of Law where she graduated with a Juris Doctor in 1996. Claudia has been married to Special Superior Court Judge Craig Croom for over 29 years.
For over 17 years, Claudia served as a Civil Magistrate Judge where she presided over thousands of small claims cases. She practiced law in her law firm, Claudia C. Croom, PLLC, for 10 years where her areas of practice were criminal defense, social security disability, personal injury, and DMV hearings.
The Clerk of Superior Court is a leader, administrator, record keeper, comptroller, and judge of probate. First and foremost, Claudia is a leader. Leadership is her passion. Her goal is to maximize the gifts and talents of the 185 assistant and deputy clerks performing the critical functions of Wake County Clerk’s Office.
Claudia’s vision is to provide courteous, efficient and professional customer service and to ensure the accuracy and integrity of court records for the public and legal community in her role as record keeper and administrator. The Clerk receives, invests and disburses millions of dollars as comptroller. As judge of probate, the Clerk has exclusive original jurisdiction relating to the probate of wills and administration of estates. This judicial role also includes presiding over adoptions, competency, guardianship, partitions of property, foreclosures, and other hearings.
Claudia’s promise to the citizens of Wake County is the faithful and impartial performance of the duties of the office of Clerk of Superior Court.
